It’s our last Film Score Friday until September-ish. We are finishing our Superman “unit” with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Music: Hans Zimmer
Here, we have a reboot of the Superman series. It’s darker and and lacks that joy that came with the original movies. It’s not Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy kinda dark, but it suits the new generation. It has the action and the visual effects that Superman Returns lacked.
Casting. Henry Cavill was perfect and did the character justice. Amy Adams provided the right amount of independence and feistiness to Lois Lane. Michael Shannon’s General Zod has the right amount of intelligence and malice. Laurence Fishburne as Perry White is a breath of fresh air with his paternal influence and fair-mindedness.
The film’s score set itself aside from previous Superman scores by not including John Williams’ Superman March. This score has more grit to it. To me, it sounds mighty thanks to Hans Zimmer’s proclivity for thunderous percussion. It’s bold, brilliant, and brave … and suits Superman.
I love the overall theme of this score, so here are 3 of my favorite tracks: Look to the Stars, Flight, and What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?
